Privacy Policy

Journal is a private journaling and reminder app made by Tag Studios LLC. It works without an account and is built to keep your writing on your device. This policy explains what that means in plain language.

Your journal entries, reminder notes, tags, moods, goals, calendar progress, settings, and tutorial state are stored locally on your device. Nothing is uploaded to any server, and we have no access to any of it.

There is no sign-up and no login. Journal does not use accounts, cloud storage, or cross-device sync. Your content lives on the device where you wrote it and does not leave it unless you deliberately export it, create a backup, or share a file yourself.

Journal entries are encrypted at rest on your device. The encryption keys are held in the device keychain and tied to your journal password and Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode. We use platform security features including encryption at rest, Keychain key storage, and iOS file protection. No system can be guaranteed completely secure, but the app is designed so that even in failure cases your content stays on your device.

The app contains no analytics or tracking SDKs and no third-party advertising or data-collection code. It makes no network requests to us or to any third party, and it does not profile you or track you across apps or websites. We do not collect usage data.

Journal has no cloud component. Any AI features are optional and run entirely on your device using Apple's on-device models — no journal or reminder content is ever sent to us or to any third party for processing. AI output may be inaccurate, so review any suggestions before acting on them.

All notifications are local and scheduled on your device — nothing is sent to a server to deliver them. Depending on your settings, a notification banner may display the reminder text you wrote. You can disable notifications at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

You can export your entries as Markdown, plain text, or PDF. Those are readable files, so protect them like any other document. Encrypted backups are protected by a passphrase you choose. We cannot recover a lost passphrase — a backup without its passphrase cannot be opened by anyone, including us.

If you contact support, we only receive what you choose to send in your message. The app never attaches your journal or reminder content automatically. An optional diagnostic summary, if you send one, contains app, device, and settings information only — never your writing.

Journal 1.0 is a free app. There are no in-app purchases and no subscriptions.

This app is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app collects no data at all, no personal information about any user — child or adult — reaches us.

You are always in control. You can export your data, delete individual entries, disable notifications, and delete the app to remove its data from your device.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new effective date.
